Mayor David A. Gonzalez was among the sponsors for the Chicago Heights Park District Back-to-School Extravaganza who made sure the children in Chicago Heights went back to school with all the supplies they needed to make this a wonderful school year.
On August 6th, the Back to School Extravaganza drew hundreds of K-12 students from the community. Student participants received free school supplies, hair cuts, and screenings in preparation for the new school year.
Mayor Gonzalez made a special donation by sponsoring a raffle that gifted winners with a book with a personal note from the Mayor and a $25.00 gift card for additional school supplies. Raffle winners entering Kindergarten – 5th grade received a copy of a children's book that contained a special message from the Mayor while winners from the Jr. High and the High School levels received hardbound journals with similar inscriptions wishing them a wonderful upcoming school year.
“I hope that the gift cards for school supplies or school uniforms will make starting the new school year a little easier for the children and parents in our community,’” said Mayor Gonzalez.
