City Celebrates the Holidays with Annual Tree Lighting and Visit from Santa Claus

Although the weather outside was frightful, Chicago Heights City Hall was delightful as the City celebrated the season with its annual tree lighting ceremony!  Mayor Gonzalez and wife Carmen greeted families outside on Wednesday evening and introduced the concert choirs from School District 170 and Bloom High School. The choirs sang their renditions of popular Christmas carols, getting everyone in the holiday spirit.  Santa arrived by fire truck with his elves and joined Mayor Gonzalez and his helpers to flip the switch illuminating City Hall with beautiful lights. Following the tree lighting, families were treated to hot chocolate and cookies inside City Hall while children had a chance to chat with Santa Claus about their wishlist!

Students

2nd Graders from Serena Hills Elementary Visit City Hall

On the morning of Tuesday, November 15th, it was not business as usual at Chicago Heights City Hall and the Police and Fire Stations. Second graders from Serena Hills School toured each facility to learn more about how different government departments function. The students got the full treatment! They were shown the Fire and Police Departments, Code Enforcement/Water Billing, Clerk's Office and Council Chambers. They even got a chance to sit on the City Council Dias as the Mayor's staff chatted with them about the duties of the Mayor and City Council.
