Mayor Delivers Keynote Speech at Bloom High School Manufacturing Day 2017Bloom 206 celebrated National Manufacturing Day 2017 by gathering local manufacturers to inspire students to explore careers in the manufacturing field. Students had a first-hand look at the field that built America and laid the foundation for industrial development in Chicago Heights. Mayor David Gonzalez delivered the keynote speech. He discussed the evolution and impact of manufacturing in Chicago Heights, and provided examples of the resurgence of the manufacturing industry in the city. The mayor spoke of the regional and global opportunities for students seeking a career in manufacturing, and the ability to obtain career skills in automation, robotics or computer aided drafting and manufacturing at area schools. “Manufacturing is at the forefront of a new era of technology and automation,” said Mayor Gonzalez. “Take this opportunity to learn and equip yourself with the skills that will create a career in manufacturing…in Chicago Heights or somewhere around the globe.” Students were scheduled for tours of 22 participating manufacturing facilities, including Chicago Heights manufacturers Ford Motor Company, FH Ayer, Esmark Steel Group, NuFarm Americas, Inc., ARYZTA, Morgan Li, and TrialCo. The students also toured Prairie State’s manufacturing and technology machine shop.
