Zarlengo’s Reveals Expansion Plans

Zarlengo’s Italian Ice began over 30 years ago with a family dream of an ice cream shop rooted in Chicago Heights. Since then, the local shop off Ashland and Joe Orr Road has remained a staple in the community while distributing Zarlengo’s Italian Ice, Zar Bars, and Gelato all over metropolitan Chicago, including US Cellular Field. As their market has expanded, so has their need for manufacturing space.
The City of Chicago Heights acquired the lot at the Northeast corner of Joe Orr Road and Ashland Avenue and recently sold the parcel to Zarlengo’s Italian Ice to assist in their manufacturing expansion. Zarlengo’s plans to expand their current storefront and manufacturing location from lot line to lot line and beautify the adjacent lot while creating additional parking. This manufacturing expansion will upgrade the intersection of Joe Orr Road and Ashland Avenue and at the same time is set to create 8-18 full-time year round jobs.
